Updates! It's been awhile!

First, a picture from the meeting we had at FiberWorks back in October of 2006:

Guild Meetings:

The February Meeting will be at Pam Dyer's house in Marvel/Red Mesa CO, on the 24th, stay tuned for details.

The March Meeting will be at the nice, new Dolores Public Library in Dolores, CO on the 31st, stay tuned for details.

FiberWorks Happenings:

Our Youth Studio Program is every Mondays 3:30 to 5 pm in February. We will work on individual felt, spinning, weaving or other fiber art projects, or students can purchase a monthly pass and work on ongoing projects with the help of a fiber art mentor. Fees for Youth Studio are $10 for one session, $40 for a month pass. Materials are extra. Preregistration is required. Call 749-7006 or email for more information.

The FiberWorks continues Community Night every Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm. Take a break and join us for an evening of relaxing and sharing - bring your spinning, knitting, needle felting .... whatever you do .... novices and wannabees welcome! Goodies provided.

Locally Grown Fiber & Yarn are arriving! We are getting in a variety of excellent quality roving, batts, yarns and other fiber goodies - most from local producers. Please come by and take a look at our selection of natural colored fibers (wool, alpaca, llama, angora), yarns and dyed merino and silks.

Very Special News for Production Artists

The FiberWorks is developing a fiber arts gallery at the studio! Since we opened last July, there has been a tremendous (and unfilled) demand for fine fiber art pieces - housewares and wearable art in particular. We are in the process of launching a major local and national marketing effort that will include promoting the studio and our participating artists to collectors, architects, interior designers and tour groups. If you are interested in becoming a participating artist, please email Raylene at info at durangofiberworks dot com for details.

Special Events

Mark your calendars! We have two very special workshop opportunities coming up this summer. Both workshops will have limited space, and are filling up quickly. To find out how to reserve your space, please email Raylene at info at durangofiberworks dot com. We are also working on getting Jill Gully here in the spring to teach feltmaking with silk, and possibly some other fun things!

Feltmaking with Chad Alice Hagen! June 25th-28th
SHAPE RESIST SCARVES 2-Day Workshop June 25th & 26thJoin us for a fabulous two day workshop that will explore the contemporary world of hand felted fine wool scarves and the mysteries of thermal shape setting techniques. We will learn a fast way to felt fine wool scarves and then learn at least 3 different techniques that will change the surface texture of the scarf into exciting works of wearable art. We will also be dyeing the scarves as we change the surface texture, creating a million different possibilities.

DYEING TO RESIST CLASS: SURFACE DESIGN ON WOOL FELT 2-Day Workshop June 27th & 28thLearn to change the boring surface of your flat felts with magical and very exciting, resist dyed surface designs. The class will learn the basics of setting up a safe dyeing environment at home by hands-on dyeing in class. Learn dozens, if not hundreds of fabulous ways to fold, bend, wrap and clamp merino prefelted wool with strange objects to produce utterly beautiful surfaces. Class will take home a giant pile of simply gorgeous sample and the skills to continue experimenting at home.
Chad is retiring from the teaching circuit so we are VERY fortunate to have her coming to Durango. Unfortunately she is no longer offering her hat workshop. We are working on the registration fees for these classes - we are anticipating they will be about $225 to $250 each, with a modest materials fee. A discount will be given to those taking both classes. We will be requiring a $150 deposit to secure your space in either/both classes. Check out her website and contact me privately if you are interested in joining us and what you might be "dyeing" to learn from Chad http://www.chadalicehagen.com/

Why we need you to pre-register for classes:
our instructors need to prepare in advance for classes
we need to know well in advance how much in the way of materials to have on hand for classes - sometimes that means placing special orders, processing fibers in the studio, and preparing student handouts
classes will be cancelled and/or rescheduled if we don't have a minimum number pre-registered
So please pre-register for classes (even if they are FREE!) ..... many thanks!!
