Local Events!

Durango FiberWorks will have a vendor booth at the San Juan Citizens Alliance Oktoberfest, held in downtown Durango (Main St), Sept 30th & Oct 1st. We are dedicated to finding ways to support fiber artists in the area so we invite all who have handcrafted fiber and wearable art to contribute to the vendor booth. FiberWorks asks for 10% of the proceeds from your sales if you help work the booth, 20% if you don't work the booth.

The Oktoberfest is a major Durango party event, attracting a huge crowd ... and with the weather starting to change, this is a huge opportunity to sell your wares. Everything needs to be handcrafted here in the 4 Corners area. We also plan to have demos during the festival, so anyone wanting to just come and spin, please do so! Contact Raylene at info at durangofiberworks dot com for more information.

The Fiberworks is also working on several holiday open houses in the Smiley Building, along with our fellow resident artists. We don't have nearly enough product to supply the demand, so if any of you out there are interested in doing production work (spinning, knitting, feltmaking, weaving, etc ... ), please consider joining our ranks. Again .... email Raylene for more information.

One last item ....The FiberWorks is hosting a fundraiser workshop for Alternative Horizons, starting this Sunday the 24th. Heather Mullet will be teaching a Knit a Christmas Stocking workshop:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Registration is $50 and all proceeds go to Alternative Horizons. This organization does VERY important work for women in our community, so if you knit, please, please join Heather for this fun workshop. We have a couple of spaces still available. For more information, please call Heather at 259-7277.

And as always ... Open Spin night at the FiberWorks is every second and fourth Tuesday evening, starting this month we will begin at 5 pm and go until when we want to head home!

September Spin Day Info!

So we are having spin day at Joni Geiger’s the usual 10ish. She has most graciously agreed to have the spin day at her place. Anyway, there are tons of you that we haven’t seen in a long while so we hope to see you there!

Please bring a dish to pass (Joni is making chili and ice tea) and a chair and plan to be outside.

Her address is 33314 Hwy 550.

To get there. Go north on Hwy 550 to Mile Marker 33. About 50 feet further is the turn to the frontage road. Go over the bridge and park in her drive. She has plenty of parking so you can go past the house to park along the drive. You will see what I mean. We will be in the little cabin next to the main house, under the ramada or shade house

Also, I wanted to mention the things we talked about last meeting. Please get back to me about these things or let’s talk about it at the meeting:

Best of the Southwest in Farmington on November 11th and 12th. Let’s plan to spin!

Durango FiberWorks needs spinners and teachers. Would you be willing to sell your yarn? The 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month is open spin night at Durango FiberWorks 6 to 8.

We still need to talk about Pagosa Fiber Festival and what we want to do about a Spin to Shawl or what ever. Are people willing to help? This is a continuing discussion and we need to start making some decisions. We will need some worker bees to make it happen.

See you all on the 30th! If I forgot anything just let me know. Be sure to pass this on to those without a computer and to others who might be interested!
Be there or be square.

*And be sure to let everyone know about the Best of the Southwest Fiber Festival coming up, Nov. 11-12th in Farmington, stay tuned for updates*

Thanks for sending more links, events and info to me! Keep it coming!

The Best of the Southwest Fiber Festival, November 11-12th, 2006 is looking for volunteers and help! If you can help with coordinating workshops, the fashion show, or anything else, please contact Lyn Brown (lynbrown11 at msn dot com). Lyn is also looking for more vendors, especially in the quilting, cross stitch and embroidery areas. If you're interested in doing a demonstration, please contact Anna Kinney (ptnopt at myway dot com)! Or, if you have ideas for promoting the event, contact Ellen Sibelius (woolywonders at hotmail dot com)!

And, from Margie:
A Handspun French Angora shell with angora/silk embellishments. The shell is displayed at the Main Book Company in downtown Cortez. The Functional Art show will be on display there for about a month, go check it out when you're in Cortez!

Send me your information, and I'll get it up on the blog! Still looking for information about the next guild meeting! (And working on adding more links to the sidebar!)

The Wild and Woolly Women of the West Blog Begins!

Here we go!

A place where we can meet online, share photos, plan meetings and events, and have a web home for others to find us!

I'll put up a link to events in the sidebar with links to click if the event has a website.

It the even doesn't have a website, I'll simply list it here as a post.

For this to really work, what we need is links to interesting sites, members blogs, pics of events and members yarn!

Please email me at morgsarah at gmail dot com if you have any questions, comments, have a pic you want to put up, and event that needs to be listed, or anything relevant!

And, because I hate blogging without at least a picture or two....

Gratuitous pics of yarn I've spun this week.

(sample yarn...Rambouillet wool and silk)

(Rambouillet batts from Rowan Tree Woolery).
